COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this foundational course, each practice presents an alignment-based sequence that illustrates how healthy, pain-free movement creates building blocks for yoga postures (asana). This course is therapeutic in nature and offers options to meet the needs of students. A student gains knowledge of his/her own body and an understanding of how to move in healthier ways. Stability, mobility, balance, breath and ease are key components throughout this practice. Come prepared to explore!

All levels are welcome. Please bring a yoga mat.
 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Gain a better understanding of therapeutic yoga and how therapeutic principles may be applied to the student’s new or existing yoga practice.

  • Explore healthy ways to move and promote safe range of motion in the joints and spine.

  • Discover ways to improve stability and balance in the yoga practice.

  • Begin understanding how to create internal alignment in the yoga practice, including using the bandhas (energy locks) and the body’s three diaphragms.

  • Gain awareness of the “essential breath” and its role in relaxation.

  • Become more adept in understanding strengths and weaknesses in one’s body.

  • Learn how to use yoga props to deepen one’s practice.

DAILY FOCUS:

  • Monday: How to cultivate more stability in our bodies through asana practice.

  • Tuesday: Playing with balance in asana practice.

  • Wednesday: How yoga asana (postures) improve awareness of healthy posture and movement.

  • Thursday:  Slow and Steady Wins the Race (slow movement to improve our breath, brain and body connection)

  • Friday:  Let’s Play (bringing playfulness into our practice)

Restorative Yoga: Relax and Renew

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this yoga course we explore our potential to relax deeply and reap the benefits of this rich practice. We begin the practice with easy, slow, fluid movement on the floor. Next, we learn and rest in several restorative postures using yoga bolsters and blankets. Guided meditations are provided while resting. Restorative yoga may improve sleep, decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure, restore vitality and help the body recover from surgeries, illness and stress.

All levels are welcome. Please bring a yoga mat and a blanket.
 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Discover the relaxing benefits of slow, fluid movement at the beginning of each practice.

  • Learn several traditional restorative asanas for deep relaxation from the Iyengar tradition of yoga.

  • Experience the physiological and psychological benefits of restorative yoga.

  • Begin understanding how our bodies want to be fully supported and warm in order to relax deeply.

  • Gain awareness of the “essential breath” and its role in relaxation.

  • Learn how to properly use yoga props to deepen one’s experience.

  • Leave with a few favorite restorative postures that you can use at home.
