As we enter an era of increased awareness around assault, emotional abuse and predatory behavior, trauma-informed yoga instruction and mindfulness practices are taking on new significance. In this workshop and practicum, yoga teachers, therapists, social workers and other wellness professionals will gain a deeper understanding of how the effects of trauma may show up in classes or one-to-one sessions and the tools they can use to support the situation. This training will offer review and also build upon what Linda and Paula have presented in past workshops.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

  • NASW – This training has been approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) ( to offer CEUs to Pennsylvania Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Professional Counselors.
  • Yoga Alliance – This training is approved by Yoga Alliance ( to offer Continuing Education hours to yoga instructors.

Friday, April 13, 2018  |  6pm – 8:30pm
Cost: $50

This workshop will provide introductory information about the prevalence and impact of trauma, and how yoga can help to heal or may further harm a yoga student who has been impacted by trauma. We review how trauma and stress impact our brain and nervous system and what hypo- and hyper-arousal can look like in our students and clients. We also highlight components of trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness that yoga instructors and therapists can apply in their practices.

Note: This session is a prerequisite for Saturday’s Trauma Foundations Practicum. If you have already taken Ahimsa or Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training with Linda and Paula, then this session is not necessary unless you want a review.

Saturday, April 14, 2018  |  12:30pm – 5:30pm
Cost: $100

Note regarding Prerequisite: Attendance at Friday's Ahimsa – Trauma-Informed Basics workshop, or commensurate knowledge or training about trauma and yoga (e.g., attendance at one of Linda and Paula's past workshops), is required for participation in Saturday's practicum. Please direct questions about commensurate prerequisites to Paula Soto at

This practicum will build on prerequisite trauma-informed trainings. Participants will learn and practice a sampling of trauma-informed mindfulness techniques and yoga teaching skills. We use role-play, discussion and practice to apply trauma-informed basics to our yoga instruction and therapy sessions. For example, we will discuss and practice how to recalibrate the nervous system for trauma recovery and resilience through modalities such as mindful breathing; offering sound sequences and modifications; and applying trauma-sensitive language and relaxation.

This practicum will include:

  • Understanding how the nervous system and the brain are impacted
  • Managing hyper- and hypo-arousal states, and learning how to better attune the student/client’s nervous system
  • Offering appropriate modifications in a yoga setting
  • Learning trauma-informed tips for restorative practices.

Both group classes and private sessions will be addressed. Curated discussion will be included. We will close the training with a practice of yoga nidra (yoga sleep).
