Women in the Round 2024: HARMONIZING CHANGE
February 10-17, 2024 | Troncones, Mexico

Get away this winter for an awe-inspiring wellness experience in the beautiful beach town of Troncones, Mexico, to explore how we as women can harmonize change in our lives by tuning into the Sacredness of Self, the body, and its many systems through the lens of yoga, somatics, guided imagery, dance, play and good fun! And, of course, by savoring moments of quietude in nature so we can better hear ourselves.

We will also enjoy ecotours, boogie-boarding, beachcombing, poolside lounging, spa treatments, sun and surf and starry nights.

This retreat offers an opportunity to:

  • Expand your view of self-care

  • Explore a path to wellness through collective wisdom, yoga and movement, somatics, dance, guided imagery, rest, reflection in nature, and play!

  • Join in ecotours and activities like kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, surfing, horseback riding or a cooking lesson

  • Relax and invigorate with stimulating and inspiring daily yoga practices

  • Turn inward and find inspiration with a daily Sunrise Reflection practice

  • Learn practical, accessible ways to restore, maintain and enhance your wellbeing

  • Enjoy Silent Disco on the beach and stone bracelet-making

  • Connect with other amazing souls on a sun-drenched, oceanfront getaway

  • Cultivate gratitude and inner peace!

NOTE: Teachers can earn Yoga Alliance CEUs for this retreat.

HARMONIZING CHANGE Is a Path to Wellness

Now is a perfect time to slow down, realize change is inevitable, and understand there is always room for better self-care. Always. It’s our natural way of expansion and growth—individually and collectively.

Times of challenge or change—like starting or ending a relationship, being bombarded by the suffering of the world, changing jobs or retiring, facing health challenges or losing a loved one—often trigger a stress response, which can show up in many ways, such as dis-ease in our bodies, fear and anxiety, sleeplessness, anger, self-blame and feeling overwhelmed, out-of-sync or fractured.

How do we address the discord and restore balance? How do we harmonize change and thrive—not merely survive—as we face it?

  • First, we learn to respond with emotional honesty and recognize the imbalance

  • Next, we do our best to access effective self-care tools and practices and tailor them to our needs.

  • Finally, we remember to be kind to ourselves and strive for inner peace and genuine gratitude.

Women in the Round shares the tools and practices to help you in your journey. Harmonizing change is a path to wellness. It’s how we grow our hearts.

A POWERFUL WOMEN’S COLLECTIVE

A COMMUNITY OF WOMEN
Our intent is to create a community of women to come together in an intimate circle to reconnect with our true essence, embrace who we are becoming, and rediscover our innate power and wisdom. We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female,” and we welcome trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people who are significantly female-identified. Attendees only need to identify as women in a way that’s significant to them.

COME AS YOU ARE; NO YOGA EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
This retreat is for any woman who is curious and brave and willing to jump in and explore! No yoga experience is necessary. Whether you’re a beginner or a long-time practitioner, our practices and discussions—from therapeutic and restorative, to vinyasa flow, to contemplative practices—are accessible to everyone. Do as much or as little as you’d like.

MAKE IT YOUR RETREAT (THERE’S LOTS TO CHOOSE FROM)
There are plenty of optional activities, massage and spa services, ecotours, and more available to enjoy. You can create precisely the retreat you want. If that means pool time, great food, and soaking up the sun in the company of other lovely women, it can be just that. If you want it to be that plus yoga, movement, ayurveda, and more, it can be that, too. You choose!

HARMONIZING CHANGE:
Wellness Practices to Guide, Strengthen and Heal

This year’s Women in the Round acknowledges that there is valuable wisdom to share woman-to-woman and across generations. We are the nurturers of this world, so taking care of ourselves is a priority, and gaining much needed knowledge and tools is worth our time and investment.

On this retreat, you are invited to:

  • Practice daily self-care (and set the intention to bring these practices home)

  • Embrace gratitude and inner peace

  • Create space for self-reflection and quietude in nature

  • Realize the importance of gleaning from and celebrating with others

  • Delve deeper into the therapeutic aspects of asana practice and pranayam

  • Gain a clearer understanding of your body and its systems, like the nervous system, including how to:

    • Wake up your interoceptive awareness (i.e., the belly-brain connection)

    • More steadily regulate your nervous system to counter stress

  • Gain confidence in what works best for you to restore a sense of wellbeing

  • Honor your Sacred Self

  • Make new connections with other amazing women

YOGA as an EMPOWERING FORCE

Each day we will move through practices that channel our own creative energy as women and human beings. These practices serve as a grounding force, fine-tune our nervous system, nourish our spirit and help unleash and empower our creative force.

Throughout the week there will be opportunities for:

  • Daily Sunrise Reflection practices

  • Wisdom Flow Yoga (free-spirited vinyasa flow)

  • Therapeutic movement and somatic practices

  • Dance and play

  • Yin yoga and restorative practices

  • Guided imagery and reflection

  • Journaling, time in nature, and walking on a gorgeous beach

MEET LINDA . . .

LINDA MEACCI, E-RYT 500, YACEP (she/her) — Yoga and Movement Specialist; Wellness Retreat Curator
Linda is a highly experienced, respected, and innovative teacher specializing in accessible and therapeutically oriented yoga; somatic and functional movement; and contemplative practices. She also loves collaborating, gathering community, and curating wellness retreats.

Linda honors the potential within each individual, creating a supportive, empowering atmosphere that encourages student participation. She opens the door for students to explore on and beyond the yoga mat; contemplate the forces at work in their lives; open up to new possibilities; and strive to reconnect with their innate power, love, wisdom, and joy.

After struggling with a serious eating disorder in her teens, Linda came to performance art, dance, expressive movement, and yoga as healing modalities. She understood that her voice and creativity needed an outlet, and to this day she very much sees her practice and teachings as creative work.

Linda is a forever-student who has spent countless hours studying with masters of the art of yoga, contemplation, the human body and brain, and spiritual teachings. She is committed to equity for all peoples and realizes she will always be humbly learning what this means in action. Her mission is to honor and uplift all those who step into a practice or retreat with her or who cross her path in life. Linda is passionate about people, nature, street art, different cultures and languages, and the Bhakti path of Surat Shabda Yoga.

SETTING: PLAYA TRONCONES and LAS VILLAS

THE VILLAS: Las Villas on Troncones Beach is a gorgeous oceanfront retreat 30 minutes north of Zihuatanejo on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Each villa has multiple single- or double-occupancy bedrooms with private or shared baths, a shared kitchen, and common space with an open floor plan ideal for enjoying the ocean breezes. Take in breathtaking sunsets to the west and the Sierra Madre mountains to the east; take a dip and relax by the saltwater infinity pool; bask in the sun; lounge under the shade of the palapa; or walk, run and explore the beach, just steps away.

MEALS: Fresh and delicious brunch and dinner are provided daily, mostly on site at the Villas, with both vegetarian and fish or meat options. Meals feature authentic Mexican cuisine prepared by Las Villas’ gourmet cooks, who will do their best to meet special dietary needs. We also plan to have two group dinners at local restaurants with outdoor seating (included in retreat fee).

ACTIVITIES: In addition to our scheduled sessions, there is lots to enjoy, such as:

  • Walking, running and exploring the 3-mile stretch of golden Troncones beach

  • Kayaking, hiking and horseback riding

  • Boogie-boarding and swimming in the warm Pacific waters

  • Cooking lesson at Restaurante La Mexicana

  • Massage and spa services

  • Surf and stand-up paddleboard lessons

  • Local sea turtle sanctuary — watch the release of baby turtles into the ocean

THE TOWN: Just a short walk down the beach from Las Villas is Troncones, a small community with a few tiendas, beachfront restaurants, small hotels, B&Bs, cafes, and surf shops (some of the best surfing in Mexico is in this area). A few of our favorite spots are:

  • Lorenzo’s “Cocos Frios” stand just across the bridge on the way into town — don’t miss your chance to sit a spell and enjoy a refreshing drink from a freshly cut coconut!

  • The open-air market on Thursday morning at Tres Mujeres Boutique Hotel, where local artisans and food vendors offer their wares (just a few doors down from Las Villas).

  • Cafe Pacifico, creating some of the best coffee drinks and smoothies in town. They are also a full-service restaurant offering delectable breakfast, lunch and dinner items.

YOUR RETREAT, YOUR WAY:
relax, reflect and renew on your own terms

There are a variety of practices and other activities scheduled daily. A sample day's schedule is shown here (schedule and session content may vary).

Please do not feel pressure to do it all. You may participate in as much or as little as you wish. This is your retreat, so make it what it needs to be for you. Allow yourself the time and space to relax and renew in body, mind and spirit. Go at your own pace. Honor your inner nudges and let them guide you toward an appropriate level of activity, striking a healthy balance between community time and personal time.

Let your senses soak in all this place has to offer. Feel the sand between your toes, the fresh breeze upon your face. Quiet yourself and sway to the rhythm of the waves. Breathe deep the sweet sea air. Take in the transcendent beauty of an ocean sunset or the mountain's majesty. Be still and let earth, sea and sky nourish the soul!

  • Visit our Retreat Travel Considerations page for detailed information and suggestions regarding travel insurance.

AIRFARE/AIRLINE RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • We recommend purchasing a refundable fare for maximum flexibility. Many airlines now offer fully refundable fares for a modest additional fee.

  • United Airlines and American Airlines have the best itineraries, at least for trips originating in Pittsburgh. For travel originating in other cities, check United, American, Delta, and Alaska Airlines (good from the West Coast).

    • NOTE: American Airlines — If traveling from Pittsburgh (PIT), be aware of possibly very short connection times for connecting flights.

    • NOTE: United Airlines — From Pittsburgh (PIT), the United itinerary to ZIH is good on Saturdays, but not so good on other days.

    • NOTE: Connecting flights — Most, if not all, Delta itineraries connect through Mexico City, while United and American connect in U.S. airports and from there fly directly to Zihuatanejo (no intermediate stop in Mexico).

Alternate Airports for DepartureWe have at times found lower fares and shorter itineraries into ZIH (including some direct flights) from locations other than our home airport of Pittsburgh International (PIT). Airports to consider include Atlanta (ATL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Cleveland (CLE), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and San Francisco (SAN).
